Summary of the final regulatory action:

The Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board of Trinidad and Tobago, in fulfilling its obligation under the Rotterdam convention, hereby notifies that all formulations containing aldicarb is banned for importation, use and export in and out of Trinidad and Tobago. This is as a result of international research which shows that Aldicarb is highly hazardous to human health and the environment.

Summary of known hazards and risks to human health:

There existed the potential for farm workers to be exposed to this pesticide as a result of the lack of adequate Personal Protective Equipment as well as the poor layout of the farm as was observed when the risk analysis was conducted. Also the lack of a structured approach to the application of the pesticide was not present, thereby presenting the potential for consumers to be exposed upon the purchase of cut flowers.

Expected effect of the final regulatory action in relation to human health:

No exposure to farmers, workers and consumers.
